Wow. Wednesday, was probably the best 48 hours of my life so far.
It was amazing to see how my wife triumphed over her contractions, only to get an epidural and then just as the real “work” began it seemed it had worn off. She was ready and battled it out. It was amazing seeing this little guy slowly inch his way into the world with the help of his Momma.
I was the “counter” in the process as well as helping Laura keep her legs up in the pushing position. I was trying to really get into the counting and on the third or fourth push I’d make the counting sound really dramatic. I think it helped.
Well, right when I started to seee his head coming out I was getting really excited. The excitement went right to my head and I started counting longer than I should have. You see, in labor and delivery, they only know how to count to 8. I would push it to ten, just so I could get that last bit out of her.
Once he was out, I had the most amazing moment. He was crying away and wailing because of the bathing and all the trauma he’d just gone through. I walked over to him mid-cry and just said “Hey Wesley, this is your daddy.” As soon as he heard my voice he stopped crying and started to look around with his crazy little eyes. From there on out he was pretty calm when I was holding him and passing him around.
Well that’s it I just can’t type anymore in fear of some of you crying into your keyboards and having water damage to your computers.
Thanks for all the continued well wishes and congratulations. It’s amazing to see how many of you care and love Wesley like we do.
Tim
